Think of the Enneagram as a highschool lunchroom. The "wings" are your besties sitting right next to you - one on your left and one on your right. They influence your decisions, "Should I eat this pizza or salad?" etc. Now, the "subtype" is like the club you're a part of - Drama, Sports, or Science. It's the lens through which you see the world... Drama club might see everything as a performance, Science club sees experiments everywhere! So, these wings and subtypes, they add flavor to your Enneagram type like hot sauce to nachos, making you more you-ish!
I absolutely love this analogy! It definitely puts the concept of the Enneagram into a more comprehensible context. The whole idea of "wings" influencing our decisions as best friends would, and subtypes being equated to the lens through which you perceive things is quite insightful. I love this analogy - it really simplifies the concept and instantly makes me connect with the Enneagram more! Now I'm viewing the Enneagram as a canteen model, where your wings can either reinforce your behaviours, or could balance out and add new dimensions.
